The Rise & Fall Of The Gossip King

Hi,
I've just released a new song called "The Rise & Fall Of The Gossip King"!

As it's not the most easiest piece of music to find a vocal melody to I've worked on that one for quite a while. I'm still not completely sure whether the music and the vocals really fit together but I like slightly weird songs so that's it :D

Lyrics:

Verse 1:
He appeared to be a silent guy – but not the one that you'd call shy
In fact he forgot a lot – and was embarrassed when he was caught
We thought he was the one keep – our secrets that were oh so deep
So little did we know – we could have seen it, though
Chorus:
One day they'll meet – and discover that I cheat
When I promise I will be discreet
How will I explain – that I try in vain
Not to do so each and every time
Verse 2:
Years elapsed and time went by – he'd kept the whole gang in the eye
The information flow – did never break off, no
Some secrets left the privacy – but no connection was to see
Everything does leak out – so no one raised a doubt
Verse 3:
A false sense of security – blew away his anxiety
All in one place we were – when someone caused a stir
By blurting out what she thought that – was largely known and widely spread
The opposite was the case – for him there was no grace

What's your opinion? Do you like it? What works and what doesn't?
I'm looking forward to your replies :)

Wow, this is unusual. I'm trying to think of something it reminds me of, but I'm drawing a blank. I really like this. It's very well arranged and I reckon the vocals work really well. Top marks from me. I love it. :)

Quirky, original but great.

There's nothing wrong with the songwriting or arrangement, but I feel the mix could be louder and a bit punchier :)

Good work @Carlonely

Really cool and unusual song, well done!  The vocal melody really took some twists and turns that were impossible to predict.  I particularly like the faster delivery at the start of the 2nd and 4th lines in each verse.

It's a completely different thing, but DEVO comes to mind - I can't even explain why!

A very different song!!! I enjoyed the story and arrangement, very difficult to put all in place!!! But you reached it

Hi

Quirky song with a interesting lyrics
a lot going on the background that seems to drown the drums
i think if you had side chained the drums with trackspacer or fuser
it would bring more clarity in the mix

otherwise a great song

I love it and it's definitely the sort of thing that would be on my playlist!  I don't like comparisons to other bands because this is all you but I can hear influences for 80s, 90s and 00s.

Really looking forward to hearing what else you've got!

EDIT: I've just had a quick flick through your soundcloud and i see some familiar names!  They're all good and your solo stuff stands out as well.

I really liked this! Unusual in a good way and kept my interest for the whole song!
Room for improvement may be the mix as someone else pointed out.
Great work!

Excellent original song. The melody fits well. Shades of Blur and Julian Cope. A big compliment.

I think the vocals and melody fit together fine. It's fun and quirky. My favorite line is "A false sense of security – blew away his anxiety". Immediately I think...Uh-oh! What's going to happen now??

@Carlonely -- A cool track with interesting chord changes, great vocals, and unique synth sounds. The vocals provide a sense of Simon Le Bon (80%) meets John Lennon (20%). Are you influenced by Duran Duran? Nice song! I enjoyed listening! :D
