I did a Dad n daughter short stay in Paris this October. We stayed at a hotel close to the Gare Du Nord (railway station). It's in a very rough area, but just up the road is the Boulevard Margeurite De Rochechouart which is every bit as wonderful as it's name. Montmartre & Sacre Coeur are off to the right. There's great bars and eateries all over the place, and about 20 minutes walk away is La Cigale..a famous venue where, on our first trip there last year, we saw Anglo/French rock guitarist/singer/songwriter Laura Cox and her excellent band. On this our 2nd trip we ventured a bit further to La Moulin Rouge to see their brilliant stage show.
Anyways, I got a song out of it...

Cigarettes and contraband, Poulet Rôti and market stands
Tramps and thieves along Barbès, by the bridge I'll meet you there
At a bistro with a rainbow, and it ain't so far
Hey babe we gotta raise a glass to the boulevard....
Marguerite-de-Rochechouart
Barbès metro station, could be two or three stops away
In Pigalle at La Cigale, we gonna see Laura play
There's a bistro with a rainbow, and it ain't so far
Listen sugar let's raise a glass to the boulevard....

Porte de Clignancourt, Les Marchés aux Puces today
Gonna steal me some art deco, ain't got the money to pay
There's a bistro with a rainbow, and it ain't so far
Aww honey let's raise a glass to the boulevard....

@ChrisPrice An excellent, rocker, Chris, and an interesting vacation tale to boot! It's cool that you spend quality time with your daughter. I recall your previous track inspired by your earlier trip to France titled "Issue De Secours". 😎
Your new song, "Boulevard (Marguerite-de-Rochechouart)", features your excellent signature guitar, very good vocals, and catchy lyrics. The production and arrangement are great and the mix is crystal clear. There is nothing not to love about your song. I enjoyed listening! Well done as usual! 😀
Cheers,
Joseph
Hi,
@ChrisPrice .
This is really good. I love how you make rock and roll more interesting than it often is.
If I didn't know better, listening to this one would assume that guitar is your main instrument as its pitch perfect, from the riffs to the lead breaks. But also the thumping bass and drums. As a one man band you're the complete package.
The song tells a great story too. I'm not usually one for taking note of lyrics, but I did with this song.
Very well done my friend.
OH WOW!
@ChrisPrice This is super and right up my street
You have absolutely NAILED the production and mix - lots going on but I can hear everything in what sounds like a live and rockin' performance
I may have been tempted to push drums up a touch in places to support the vibe of the track
The performance(s) are off the charts good - the standout for me is the vocals - especially the backing vocals, which support the track perfectly
I am trying really hard to think of anything constructive I could add (but I am really struggling as I am loving everything)
The only thing I can think of, is that I would personally try adding a bit more "light and shade" to bring things down in the verse sections, and then punch it back for the more "chorus sections" - although I would be worried about losing the energy - which this has in spades!
The lyrics are great - you really have "painted the picture" - great songcraft 8)
Overall, this is a fantastic piece
@icystorm @Nick Ryder @Boydie Thanks for your enthusiasm guys. I appreciate it. Really glad to see the forum coming to life again. I've just been listening to some great contributions. :)
