"Fair-Weather Friends"
Words & Music By Tom Tognaci

The songbird sings in the warm summer sun
Its song is sweet and endearing
But when it has sung the last note on its tongue
It flies away, disappearing
For oh, the sun may stop shining
And oh, the snow falls cold
And oh, that winter's wind may throw
A tantrum to behold

You'll hold my hand, and that's all right by me
It's all been fine and fair sailing
You smile and I nod, and we always agree
But will it go without failing?
For oh, the sky may turn bitter
And oh, the rain may come
And yes, that devil wind may send
Those clouds to block the sun

All those fair-weather friends, they'll up and run, like the birds that leave the trees
While the songbird chases the summer sun; I'll be left behind to freeze
Left behind to freeze

Now,
Let it be known that this story I've told
Was once first penned a cappella
But when a wild storm brewed and its big thunder rolled
You up and shared your umbrella
Oh, how the sky had opened
With a trumpet's golden sound
The dark clouds went their separate ways
And a true-blue friend was found
A true-blue friend was found

All those fair-weather friends, they'll up and run, like the birds that leave the trees
While the songbird chases the summer sun; I'll be chasing you on skis
In the frosty mountain breeze

Tom,
Great to hear you again. Neat song, liking the stripped back nature of it. And then when when you strummed it lifted up too.

And liked the last the last verse too.

Nicely done.

Yes, you are right @IronKnee things have changed but... creators are the same, little hearts that beat in a special way making songs and sharing them like little children show they drawings to their friends or parents...
Of course it's a simile ... Actually creators, most of them, show their work made with pieces of work of others.

Remember, you are an excellent true singer songwriter, never forget it.

Hi Ironknee. It has been a while since I was on the forum but I remember you making wonderful folk music quiet well.

As always Great Americana folk stuff. In this song, I love the soothing, gentle and warm sound of your guitar. It contrasts beautifully with your pure-from-the-heart country&western voice.

Greetzzz, Dorian

Thanks Maya..... I really appreciate you coming on by!
I never did really like my voice and always wondered how it would sound in a real music recording studio with real recording engineers.... better, I think. I leave lots and lots of flaws and smears in my recordings, only with hopes the writing itself shines thru.
Thank you very much for the encouragement.
