SONG
Recently I was turned on to the first two albums of Kacey Musgraves. I didn't expect to enjoy them so much, but Pageant Material, in particular, knocked me out.
I started thinking I could write that kind of material. So here's my first effort.
Yes, it's me singing it. I plan to pitch this to female country singers, if it doesn't induce gastric distress here. Lyrical changes in spots may be forthcoming. Thanks for listening!
BE HERE
FIRST VERSE
All the other girls
showing off their rings
while I was busy writing songs
and breaking guitar strings
They threw baby showers
while I sang after hours
thinking there was something wrong with me
The one day
something came along
Like a song I'd been singing
but now I was in the song
CHORUS
Thought that I was crazy
but now it's all so clear
I was only biding time
`cause I knew one day
you'd be here
SECOND VERSE
On the stage
living for my dream
but without love
it isn't what it seems
My mama wants grandbabies
but the record company lady
wants to meet sometime next week with me
In you walked
my heart stood still
Day and night
couldn't get my fill
You knew I was a singer
A lady guitar-slinger
and that's just how it had to be
CHORUS
Thought that I was crazy
but now it's all so clear
I was only biding time
`cause I knew one day
you'd be here
BRIDGE
People try to give advice
"Give up the dream; at least you tried"
as the calendar marks another year
"Waiting for the perfect guy
the sands of time will pass you by
Make the choice: a family or career"
Somehow I knew one day you'd be here
THIRD VERSE
Now we live in the limelight
and through it all you're by my side
Those lonely days are far away
the live I love so near
I was only biding time
I knew one day you'd be here
