I got a heads up about a new songwriting contest today. Information is on the sponsor's website at
http://www.whiwharvard.com/whiw-songwriting-contest/. The sponsoring radio station is in Illinois.
I read through the rules and I didn't see anything about limitations as to where entrants could be from, BUT finalists must be able to go to Illinois to perform their songs, so that could eliminate a lot of people right off the bat. Although, it
is permissible to have someone perform on your behalf (PopTodd???)
You can enter up to three songs (according to the entry form--the rules say as many as you want, so I don't know the real limit) at $10 entry fee per song. You can also request song evaluations on each song for another $20 per song. That part is optional.
The contest announcement was sent to me by my local songwriters' association and is vouched for by a radio station employee who is a former member of said association. I don't know her, but other current members of the association seem to think she is a reputable source. It's a fairly small, close-knit group, so I feel confident about it.
It might be fun to enter to see what happens, but I don't think I would travel there to perform. So if I happened to have a song chosen as a finalist, I would probably end up being disqualified. But I would still be able to say my song was chosen as a finalist. The prizes are studio time and opportunities to perform for audiences.
Deadline is June 24, 2017. Finalists need to be at the Stanchion Pub in Harvard, Illinois for the "play-offs" on August 11, 2017.
