As I said in my introduction thread, I've been writing songs for a long, long time Actually it's 30 years since I took up writing them for a hobby. Over the years I've written thousands of songs/song lyrics and a few hundred of them I could probably still sing (to myself when no one is around!) when I read the lyrics.
I recently started going through the task of gathering them all together (back in '88 when I started they were all handwritten) and re-writing some of them (I'd like to think I've matured somewhat lyrically since those long lost days of teenagedom!).
I figured I'd like my first post containing my own work to be something I wrote back then, in 1988. Overall I love this song but I'm unhappy with some of the lyrics - I did have a stab at rewriting them several years ago but ended up changing very little because I was trying to change them too much and losing the meaning.
Feel free to pick them apart (don't worry, you can't critisize my writing more than I do myself and I come from "Generation Sticks and Stones" anyhow) and/or offer any suggestions.DREAM WORLD
verse
She sits in the moonlight
Passing time within her dreams
She lives in a fairy tale
Or so it always seems
But Cinders must beware the sands
The midnight hour is close at hand
chorus
And her shattered dreams are mirrors
Of a life not meant to be
Who knows what she sees
In her dream world
verse
She used to be happy
Such a future lay ahead
She'd love him forever
But their time ran out instead
It seemed their love was doomed to die
Before they had the chance to fly
chorus
And as moments pass so slowly
And the tears run down her cheeks
Who knows what she seeks
In her dream world
bridge
Now as time passes slow
And the pain only grows
There's a hole in her heart
Where she'll never let him go
verse
But maybe another
Will appear before her eyes
And maybe he'll carry her
Away into the night
Though deep inside there'll be the one
Who stole her heart but now is gone
chorus
And the guilt is out to get her
With the pain of tragedy
Nothing's as it seems
In her dream world
{Instrumental}
verse
She sits in the moonlight
Passing time within her dreams
She lives in a fairy tale
Or so it always seems
But Cinders must beware the sands
The midnight hour is close at hand
bridge
Close your eyes!
See him there
He is now beyond this world
Say goodbye
This is where
You have got to let him go
chorus
But she finds she is not ready
And she cannot let him go
This is all she knows
Of her dream world
And her shattered dreams are mirrors
Of a life not meant to be
Who knows what she sees
In her dream world
And as moments pass so slowly
And the tears run down her cheeks
Who knows what she seeks
In her dream world
And the guilt is out to get her
With the pain of tragedy
Nothing's as it seems
In her dream world...
