So, now I feel a bit scared to release my new song into the world. After all, my voice stands pretty bare and emotional in the room. Really hope folks appreciate it.

The lyrics are about all the creative / sensitive / neurodiverse / alternative young people out there, who do not fully match the majority of their peers. It was written in response to the struggles that the teenagers of friends of mine experience at school. Their struggle reminds me of myself at that age.

Lyrics
You are not broken
You’re just perfect the way you are
It’s the way you were born

You are such a beautiful soul
Don’t let them bullies kill the light
For they are locked inside a box
And you my friend
You will break free

Set your doubt aside
Spread your wings and fly
The whole world is yours
If you’d only try
And when the time is right
You’re heading for the sky

You are more refined than most
Sensitive and unique
In your own right

The world is so wide
All the options are open
One day you will be ready
You will be free

Set your doubt aside
Spread your wings and fly
The whole world is yours
If you’d only try
And when the time is right
You’re heading for the sky

The path can be lonely
One day you’ll find your home
With those who understand
And you won’t feel broken
Within the collective of free minds

Beautiful lyrics and very thoughtfully done. I think the vocal is beyond criticism in something like this because of its message, honesty and integrity. It’s perfect for what you need to do…and that’s all that matters.

We weren’t quite as obviously diverse when I was a youngster…the name of the game was mostly just not to draw attention to yourself and try to avoid getting mugged for your dinner money, or your head kicked in by one of the local basket-cases for no reason whatsoever.

It broke a lot of people.

Yes, this is a fine thing
Unusual and refreshing
The voice uncompromisingly theatrical but sounds authentic.
The words and sentiment are sympathetic and coherent.
The listen brought vague images of beauty and the beast.
Where the beast is actually quite handsome,
often well dressed but looks dignified in rags.

You Are an interesting artist.
It's either this or that, then again it might be the other.

I can promise you a future of slow decline.

Hi Paul
The second part of your post
Makes me reflect.

I'm an expat living in Germany
My 50+ y.o. pink brit friends seem to have this survival mode going on
Just as you described it.
Draw no attention, head in the sand, avoid getting mugged by psychos and taxmen.

Then there's me with a steadfast aversion to meds,
 my active interest in sport and nutrition,
my voluntary struggles to develop and realise ideas in music.

I'm rattling, hungover from a birthday party last night.

All the best 👍
It's either this or that, then again it might be the other.

I really enjoyed listening to this one @Dorian It's quite unique and your vocal works very well with this style of song. Clever and considered lyrics and I love some of the sounds that you have conjured up. It's got a wonderful freshness that is sometimes lost in more overproduced stuff. Excellent song  :)

WOw. It's the first song of my morning and I thoroughly enjoyed it!!! totally unique, unexpected, personal, with a great, clean, defined sound, and that special way of delivering the melody, slowly, supporting each word. I loved it, you should not be afraid of having your work accepted, I think it is excellent!!  @Dorian

I think in previous times youngsters were just as diverse as nowadays; they just didn’t dare to express themselves as such, keeping a lid on being too different from the rest, for all the reasons you mentioned. Nowadays, there’s more knowledge on neurodiversity, psychology and queerness and such. Nevertheless, there’s still the bullies and small minded folks, who ruin the good vibes for a lot of kids. If it were up to me, everyone could express themselves in all the unique ways they want.

@rightly
You sir, are an interesting artist as well. Love the 70s vibe in lots of your songs. I’ll be looking forward to your new productions.

@Elvis Nash
Well, it IS released… on Soundcloud that is haha  ;)
Will upload it to Spotify and such later this year.

@pompeyjazz
My intention with mixing is to make my songs sound clear and punchy, without becoming overproduced (which I think sucks all the life out of recordings). It’s wonderful to read that you recognise just that  :)

@moraamarolaloba
At first, I wasn’t entirely confident if the song would work if it started with my voice and a bass guitar only, later adding the melodies. Reading your comment, it seems it all works just fine  :) Thanks for listening and commenting so thoroughly.

Hey. @Dorian

I really like this. There's lots of ear candy in the production and it creates a scene it my mind.

Have you ever seen the TV show Twin Peaks the Return? This song would work perfectly in the end Roadhouse sections.

@Dorian

It's such a shame that a song like this has to be written.  We live in a bizarre world where people at times, communicate ineffectively,misunderstand and hurt each other.

I think the production here is very interesting and benefits from the at times minimal and unexpected approach.  The vocals are really good.
 this this is a thought provoking composition.

I really enjoyed listening.

An extraordinary song. Very profound. I can't really offer any critique because it's so unusual and it had me hooked all the way through. If I'm honest, it isn't the kind of song I'd usually listen to but, nonetheless, well done. :)
