I don't think I ever posted this one in "Finished Songs"

I wrote it last year...I might have posted it in relation to my FAWM endeavours...but I did a search for it here before posting and got some twaddle about each word needing to have more that two characters  ::) at which point I lost interest and figured I'd just post it anyway :)

It's indicative of what I've been up to lately...going to quite a few open mics and songwriter nights where I've tried to knock up a set of around 20  songs to play just with an acoustic guitar. It's quite interesting and I enjoy it to such an extent that I haven't bothered to write anything for a year or so. I've played 58 different original songs thus far at these nights over the last year or so, I think...some of them work well and some of them don't. Often, it's the ones you think will be OK that translate badly in that 1+1 format and some of the ones that you were concerned about that come out best. I've had to slow things down a bit...as I often give it too much welly.

I'll likely post a thread somewhere here with some more videos that my long-suffering wife took at a venue I've done a couple of gigs at this year...but for now, well...it's a "NO" from me...

It’s a “No” From Me

I don’t see what they see

I can’t be what they want me to be

I hear them say “Yes”

And I’ve tried to care less

But we fail to agree and so it’s a “No” from me

It’s a “No” From Me

I don’t hear what they hear

I don’t fear what they want me to fear

They don’t like my face

Or me taking up space

But I won’t disappear I’ll be scraping away the veneer

It’s a “No” from me

What else could it possibly be?

I don’t hear what they hear

I don’t fear what they want me to fear

They don’t like my face

Or me taking up space

But I won’t disappear I’ll be scraping away the veneer

It’s a “No” From Me

In the "studio" version, I followed the old punk rock adage of making the 3rd verse the same as the 1st verse...but, live, once I could see the whites of their eyes, I fancied doing the "they don't like my face" bit again.

It's perhaps an unusual way to present a song for feedback...but any thoughts are always welcome.

I don't remember seeing it before, but you can't go by me, I've been so scarce the past few years. I enjoyed the opportunity to watch you sing and play. I hope you do post more videos. And maybe I'll come watch you in person some day.

Excellent song
It doesn't meander much, really tidy n coherent
Must be a joy to play

If I had the chords I'd cover it
A fine thing.
Well done buddy.
It's either this or that, then again it might be the other.

I can promise you a future of slow decline.

And there you have it.

Hi @PaulAds

   It's a YES from me!  ;D

It sounds great. The lyrics are potent in their comparative brevity. It's an enjoyable performance. I can't really suggest anything. I feel I'm letting you down 🤪but I hope my simply enjoying it is sufficient.

All the best,

CCB

No, I do not remember this song... I think you had no posted it before.... Ha sido un estreno!!!  I id not know you have a Tube channel, welcome to the vids!!!
It's a good song @PaulAds  catchy, really catchy. I'm sure your wife enjoys recording the vids of you singing!!
I have never sung live, my passion was writing, poetry, stories, short stories, although from time to time my musician friends would call me to sing in a choir on some of their record recordings... But I do know which is performing live, I did it with my poetry... A special connection is established with the audience... electricity, empathy, adventure... Congratulations
I did not know that to live we had to die so many times

Hello @PaulAds,

I'm a little late with these words but have been in France over the last week.

Had I been in the audience, I would have thought to myself and whispered to Marie "This guy is the real Deal".   I mean that sincerely, You sound and look the business.  Anyone who knows about music should know this is a brilliant accomplished performance.  so much honesty and guitar vocal can often convey more than a band ever could.

As discussed recently, I've prepared 20 songs for a live performance and I really do hope to catch up with you back home in the north.  It would be lovely for the two of us to perform together.

This song was one of my favourites of yours since I first heard it @PaulAds ... And I love this performance. You seem so at home just you and the guitar up there (although I'd love to see you front a full band, I'd say it would be a riot!).

That's gas if you and Paul V get to perform together - it would be mad altogether if a bunch of us were on a line up... Ah well, we'll just have to settle with sharing here.

Don't be shy posting. I know there's more where that came from :) !

@PaulAds  Great to see a live performance! Nice song that would also work well as a full production, but this has nice energy as a live performance, well done, Kevin

Worth the price of admission for the line:
-
And I’ve tried to care less

You say so much in so little time and the sharp focus of lyric is still something I strive for but fall short on. Been a while since I heard one or your songs, too long.
Every time is a joy, an encouragement and a lesson.
