Anyone know where I can find reasonably priced loops that are more than just a drum track? I have a few loops that sound like something from a song, like a full backing track, except it's a short excerpt repeated over and over again. Just one or two chords.

I find these helpful for giving me ideas, but I'd like to find some with more variety--a longer chord progression. The best I have right now are a few that go back and between two chords, just playing the same short pattern over and over.

I'm hoping to find a variety of styles and tempos. I've gone hunting but can't seem to find anything except short or extremely repetitious drum patterns. Not much of anything with instruments too.

I think what you are looking for are "construction kits"

Try here, where you can search by genre and then see what is available

They also have loads of construction kits here. There are a few freebies which are just 'tasters' so a bit limited no doubt.

There are more on there somewhere but I couldn't find them at the moment....maybe not available any more. I actually used one of the drum loops on my latest song post....probably edited it somewhat...can't remember now.
Take it easy.

You can check my stuff out here. Mini-album getting bigger slowly. Free download if you're poorer than me.

Aaahhhhh! Didn't know the term "construction kits", so never searched it.

Thanks! I'll check out both recommendations.

Bit confused here Vicki, why do you need chord prog loops?...if you don't play guitar or piano then forgive this question, I always thought you did,
bangin out a chord prog is one of the easiest things on the planet!!
plus you can take the chord prog from any song you like and write another song over it, chord progs are not copyrighted..of course you not gonna use 'Smoke on the water' or 'You really got me' but you know what I mean...
every key has it's set of chords..play them as single blocks blocks then put them on a track in your DAW in any random order and see what you get, then just move em around to taste until something happens,

lots of very successful songs were written using....A-D-E and Fsharp minor..not necessarily in that order obviously,
'I drove all Night' and when you 'walk in the room' are 2 examples..
this structure can be moved up and down the scale of course to fit a vocalist but it's really just the same chords in a different place innit!!

Hey Kevin,

I was actually thinking of more than just chord progressions, sorry about that. I like to play loops, produced with a full band or whatever--in different styles to give me ideas for how to treat a lyric. The loops I have just play the same chord over and over. I have loops in several different styles--pop, rock, country, blues, ballad, funky, hip hop, latin, reggae, spacy....  But every one of them is very short, so it's just an extremely short snippet of the style that plays over and over and doesn't go beyond one chord. I'd like some that go through a variety of chord progressions.

Yes, I do use my guitar to work out chord patterns for songs, once I've gotten an idea of the kind of treatment I want to use. And I don't always use loops, but sometimes, when I have a really hard time coming up with a good idea, then listening to a variety of loops in different styles is helpful.

Now that I have found a bunch of loops online, I don't know how soon I'll buy any. There are so many, and the selection is so confusing. It would be nice to find an extensive library that includes a wide variety of styles and chord progressions.

Plus, I keep forgetting I have other sources--SongSmith, for instance, and two keyboards that both will play different styles for me. With those I have to come up with the chord progressions myself, but that's the easiest part.

Thanks for asking!

Vicki
