I was surfing the net yesterday and came across a band from my home town of Hartlepool.  I had forgotten how good they were and consider it. a mystery that they didn't go on to rule the world.  The vocalist/songwriter  is a rare talent indeed. I believe that they previously supported Cold Play. The music business is crazy!  This is "Mercedes" an outstanding talent.  You should check them out!

It's a competitive market, and tbh (in my opinion) that album is song after song of missed chances. The songs are all amazingly put together, but the melodies lack any killer catches. It's obviously commercially slanted, but the killer ingredient is missing.

Hello @Bankie, it's interesting to hear your take on this band.  I don't know any of the members though I have seen them perform on several occasions.  All I can say is that they communicated emotion in abundance.  I think their appeal is similar to a band like Radiohead, who in my opinion aren't the most commercial band.  They also often miss opportunities to deliver a big chorus. However they too communicate emotion and power intensely.  I think of Mercedes as an indie band who would now be outdated but at the time were very current during their performing years. I think their song craft is exceptional. Had they been signed to a major label rather than a small independent label, I think they would have perhaps become more commercial or they would have been encouraged to develop further. A good A&R man should in my opinion be able to see their potential.  It's all subjective.  I was completely bowled over with the emotion, power, professionalism and song craft that this band delivered.

Hey @Wicked Deeds, these are pretty OK. But in a life where all was fair and just, they’d be supporting you, yes YOU - as the headline act.

Very nice sound. But not a patch on your own songwriting skills!

But don’t get big headed, mind. You can still improve. And we want to hear it, ha ha! 😉

PS @Wicked Deeds, the solution to the injustice is that we keep their sound, but they do your songs instead.

Can’t go wrong, and elusive success will finally come their way. 😀

I normally charge for such insights, but for you it’s mates rates. Which is a pint, hopefully one day!

@pompeyjazz, I believe the lead vocalist taught my boys at their comprehensive school. I often wonder if she is still writing and recording. I should ask via her SoundCloud page if she would like to collaborate. That would be something.

@MicahaelA you are too kind.I certainly owe you a pint for that lovely comment.
