It must be nearly a year since I posted a lyric in here. Ive been asleep, so I thought this might be an appropriate song.

The night owl is my new name for the sandman and its always puzzled me why parents tell their children that the sandman will come and sprinkle sand in the eyes to make them go to sleep. How the hell is a child supposed to go to sleep if he's going to be worried all night about some lunatic with a bucket of sand creeping into his bedroom and grinding it in to his delicate eyes.
Any way, here is the lyric, its very light, no indepth analysis required.

The Night Owl
=========

The highways chain of light
The deepening of the sky at night
The end of the working day
Some will rest, some will play

The sand man comes to call
Taking prisoners one and all
He’s just rising from his sleep
Wide awake now the night to keep

CHORUS

Oh he’s night owl
Rubbin sand in peoples eyes,
Oh he’s night owl
Rubbin sand in peoples eyes,
Oh he’s night owl
oooohhh

His work is never done
As he runs around after the Sun
Sleep delivered all by hand
With liberal sprinkles of his sand

The highways chain of light
The sun makes light of the night
The start of the working day
Some will work, some will play

Repeat chorus

Solo

Repeat chorus

Hey seriousfun - you can't just go making up new names for the sandman! Just kidding -  I liked this - has a nursery rhyme feel but a sense of a deeper meaning IMO. I esp liked:

Quote
Taking prisoners one and all

and

Quote
Sleep delivered all by hand
With liberal sprinkles of his sand

suggs below - keep or sweep:

He’s just rising from his sleep
As we pray our souls to keep

and

His work is never done
As he chases that old Sun

Also - did you mean "He's a night owl"?

Nice work!

yeah i also got the feel for a nursery rhyme here
but yet like paulski said a deeper meaning

the chorus comes across like it will be really catchy

i loved the opening line,   THE HIGHWAYS CHAIN OF LIGHT  where did you get that

in fact the whole first verse hits the ground running

hope the music is on its way

                 nice write, simple effective
