Would you be willing to invest £5000(payable in instalments) for 5 years access (60 hours per year) to a £450k music/recording studio? that has had some big names thru it...with a PRO sound engineer thrown in. ;)

Well would YOU?  :o

STC,
Well ignoring my obvious lack of ££££ it seems to go to be true at £16/per hour if my maths is right.
But if you've a need and the cash, and its paid in instalments why not?

Ah. Sceptics are welcome.  Tone its not a trick question . 5k=300 hours over 5 yrs in a pretty top end recording studio , with a decent soun d engineer.

I'm not offering this by the way.Just wanted to test public opinion.and yes neil ,thats £16 an hour , and this place looks better than abbey road!

The question I would ask is why and what will you get out of it?

For demos and self released stuff I would argue that the studio and gear doesn't matter as much these days

Getting a good rate for studio time is one thing (and a very good thing) but being able to take advantage of this value is another

ie do you have the session musicians / or a band lined up to play, does the "engineer" double as a producer and mix engineer, will you also pay for mastering etc. etc.

cant be easy running a big studio, theyre going down faster than pubs
and 60 hours not a lot of time really, once youve turned up, tuned up, twittered and dropped off..
i may not believe this tomorrow...

'The question I would ask is why and what will you get out of it?'

@Boydie .
Why? for those that would like to record their music in the best possible conditions might be one answer. It's a large studio ,so you could accommodate plenty of people depending on your projects.

What's in it for me, well since i am not doing it , nothing but the satisfaction of seeing you smile. ;D

@Nooms , yes i believe you are right, like a lot of business these days ,they need to be creative and alter traditional frameworks of business, and create new revenue streams.

Also Boydie..i wasn't thinking of a S/E as being anything more than assisting in the recording..i believe mixing/mastering would be an 'add on' cost..as in other studio's?

But anyway the hypothetical question still remains  ..i could expand on it ,but i won't at the moment.
Except to say it's an idea i'm crunching out...probably daft as a box of frogs, but there you go , that's me. :P

Its not something That would suit my work flow, not that I am close enough to use it. I find that my writing and recording process is interwoven to the extent that each process relies heavily on the other.

Studios like a lot of thing these days are negotiable ..even very good ones...that's what i was speculating , they could be bought outright as a cooperative run venture, or some other arrangement ....with proper recording facilities , and used at an attractive rate....bedroom bandits  8)
