I was working on something for the comp and then I realised that I might contravene the rules as I'd already posted in the WIP section a few months ago.

So I've had to come up with something else pretty fast and I came up with an idea of a Saxon soldier coming back to life during an archaeological dig (Spooky enough ?)

I've only spent a couple of hours on this one but I think I've been far too guilty in the past of messing around with stuff that sounded fine

This is Second Century Superman......

Second Century Superman

You found me
I'm in a kind of easy
I'm feeling king of queasy
There's brushing on my feet

Sleepy, I've laid like this for centuries
I had my life then lost it
And then I got some sleep

Second century superman
Who knows just what I am
You came around and woke me from my sleep
I'm a second century superman
With battles won and in my hand
Where am I ? Just need some relief

Join me, I'm having a birthday party
I'm eighteen hundred and sixty
There's going to be a feast
Hoping, that people are going to accept me
Living my way through history
Not a man deceased

Paul's right vocals really shine, infact the whole production quality feels ridiculously clean.

Fantastic build up and pace made for a really enjoyable listen too, beautiful music.

Gar...I wish I could come up with something like that in a couple of hours! Nice work. I think it's a great addition to the competition and I have no nits.

I read the title & your introduction & imagined Saxon covering 21st century Schizoid Man with a few words from tony robinson of Time Team!
I know what a chameleon you are with music genres john so it wouldnt have surprised me ;D
anyway this was delightfully laid back with the lush synths & relaxed vocal
I realy liked your voice with the slow tempo & the sci fi sort of story which was spooky but not scary as the warrior who woke up when they tickled his feet seemed a friendly bloke..
that heartbeat as he woke up made me jump a bit going from speaker to speaker
i thought the song was very classy & realy liked it :)
Tell me Im wonderful & I ll be nice to you :)

Now this is proper scary stuff...love the intro and the subject matter. And the discordant echo on the chorus...you've got something really good here John and for a few hours work it is superbly put together. I also adore the guitar solo, easily one of your best.

I love how the beat works underneath the song...it's so subtle yet provides the whole thing with real lift. The bass sound is cool as well, especially when you play in the lower range. I see this comp is going to be tough to choose a winner from.

This is a very well put together damn fine song...the vocal panned hard left did not work for me though...
and I didn't find it spooky...no matter, putting aside the competition aspect of it..

it's a fine piece of work...

Lovely spacey sound to this. No idea what it's about but I like the lyrics and they really fit with the music and the effects. It's a little Pink Floyd-y to me - but I'm not really speaking from a position of knowledge there because the only Pink Floyd I know is Knock on Wood. On my laptop speakers the percussion / drums sound a little too electric, but that's contrasted with tremendous sounding electric and a funky bass. Not sure that it's too Halloween-ish - though it might be if I understood the lyrics. I'd like to listen to this lying on the lawn looking up at the stars.

John,

Love this.....trying to think who this reminds me of.....and I can't.

Great how you've fused the sound affects, with synths and love those guitar souls.

Definitely haunting ....especially the windy ending.....

Straight onto my playlist.

Very relaxed, this and an interesting and strange perspective.
The production is a bit too clean for me.
But generally I do like it.
It's either this or that, then again it might be the other.

I can promise you a future of slow decline.

It's time for me to bow out I think. A couple of hours??? This is really good. Wonderful, dreamy feel to it. Those lovely, swirling synths and that guitar work is really cool. The bass I felt needs maybe a little 'messing' with to make it sit more comfortably (particularly at 3:45) but it's on the right track and the potential is huge.

I wasn't sure about the vocal to begin with but a few plays later it seemed fine although I still felt a little more melodic variation would not go amiss. Who's is that voice that joins you on 'Second century Superman'?  for me the vocals just light up when she sings. Maybe you've got it just right for the effect but I reckon you could make more use of that voice.

Yes, you've got a contender here for sure. My entry in the last competition was a last minute, rapidly written disaster. Not so in your case I think.

Superb!  Great use of those synths, and I love that airy sound you have achieved.

A different take on the comp topic, nice.

Very easy on the ears, and I can imagine listening to this for hours on end.

Great sound John. Vocals are excellent and match the song perfectly. The whole thing 'creeps' along with style and it's a really great listen straight off.

Trouble is I live in a really old house which 'makes' all sorts of weird noises at the best of times... I think I'm going to have to turn all the lights on now!!   :o

Awesome entry

Pretty impressive for a couple of hours work there Pompy.

Liked the production and the laid back synths, particularly the intro which really draws you in.

I agree with a previous comment regarding the vocal, sounds great but I think I would use the hard pan more sparingly, maybe in short bursts for effect and to add contrast.

Good work.
