 Hi,

Here's another from Mr. Skub and myself.  The second Tribute song we've done.
Again, we've tried to keep it respectful, and not a complete 'rip off'.  Although we have
used a lot of 'references' from his style, and his lyrics.

I especially like what Skub has done with this.  He's made it sound like we've been playing together
for years.......relaxed and easy ;D ;D .    Just like the man himself. ;D

I know how it feels
To be out in the cold
It was good to be king
It's not cool to get old

I know you always said
You won't back down
It's not gonna be easy
Not having you around

Maybe I'm free falling
Or learning to fly
Into the great wide open
Just learning to cry

I grew up with your music
It felt honest and true
Now it's time to move on
It was too good to be true

I hope we meet again
On some sunny day
Giving it all or nothing
On the king's highway

Maybe I'm free falling
Or learning to fly
Into the great wide open
Just learning to cry .

All the work (Lyrics,singing,gtr,bass,mix,production....drums too probably) was done
by Skub.  Not really sure what I did ;D ;D ;D  But it was fun.....as is everything that is
 touched by Mr. Vance.....

Hope you enjoy it as much as I do  ;D

Great tribute guys. He was a true legend, I'm sure he'd be singing along and tapping his foot. Clever lyrics and as catchy as a Petty masterpiece. Live the guitar too.

Like this very much, I could hear on the first listen that voices were above everything else in the mix but not so much on the second one, so nevermind.

The Chorus is very good especially the descending notes of the first sentence, this is a great idea ! kudos !

Nono.

I love Petty, and you guys for doing this. It's lovely. You made a wonderful tribute to him. Nice references, but you've kept it your own sound. Beautiful. Thanks for sharing that.

As most of you will already know,Bin is a genuinely great chap to work with on a song, flexible and yet always has a good idea of direction. Don't listen to him when he says he's not sure what he did!  :D

The original track is pure Bin,the whole feel of the song was there in the groove,so the thing grew organically. I like the fact in the finished track the lines are blurred between what both of us did,to me it sounds a natural blend, rather than separate bits stuck together.

It's always a pleasure Bin.  8)

Thanks to y'all for listening.  :)

Well that's ruined my evening, as I didn't even realise he had died!  ;) I need to get out my shell more often!

It's a smart tribute that captures the spirit of TP and that guitar solo and its sound in mid song really sells the mood of the piece. Loving your harmonies too and the voices really work well together. Very catchy!

It sounds great! I have niggly little nits, but I think I might keep them to myself this time. Just my usual whining about prosody.

bin and skub - well a musical match made in heaven fo sho!  ;D
Great tribute to the rebel without a cause.
I'm with Jamie - only partially got him, but can't deny his impact.
Great groove with the guitars and drums and bass, think the harmonies came in a bit early for Mr. Petty but it's a good melody and chorus.

solid work my forum friends  ;D
