Hiya

After a "call out" by @PaulAds (and then by @Skub) for me and mods to enter I had to give my take on the drum track

I wanted to go for an all out rocker - and try to really bring that amazing drum track to life  ;D

Great idea by @PaulAds for a challenge and I think we should create a playlist of these on SoundCloud because every version/interpretation I have listened to has been amazing

Here are the lyrics:

So Hot You Make The Devil Sweat

Verse
You made me question my faith
I thought heaven must be missing an angel
but you scared them away

I was under your spell
When I made my move
You said go home or go to hell

Chorus
You
You’re so hot you make the Devil sweat
I think you know
I can’t let you go
You’re my last cigarette
You
You’re my first and last regret
I can’t let you go
I think you know
You’re so hot you make the Devil sweat

Verse
You took my heart and my soul
I got nothing left to give
You’ve stolen it all

I don’t know what to do with myself
But when I tried to call
You said go home or go to hell

Chorus
You
You’re so hot you make the Devil sweat
I think you know
I can’t let you go
You’re my last cigarette
You
You’re my first and last regret
I can’t let you go
I think you know
You’re so hot you make the Devil sweat

Verse
You slithered back in my life
I know you’ve been tracking me down
I’m done with your lies

Go and tempt someone else
If you ever call
I’ll say go home or go to hell

Guitar SOLO

Chorus
You
You’re so hot you make the Devil sweat
I think you know
I can’t let you go
You’re my last cigarette
You
You’re my first and last regret
I can’t let you go
I think you know
You’re so hot you make the Devil sweat

Great to have you involved Boydie and been great hearing your take on this drum challenge.

I think you've nailed it! The simple punchy lyrics are fantastic and delivered very well. The chorus is just great and very catchy and I think the production has helped to make that chorus build and build to the end with extra layers being added throughout. Love that guitar solo!

All in all a brilliantly crafted track

Cheers

Ha! That's awesome @Boydie  :)

If anyone was in any doubt about your many talents (which I very much doubt) they know now!

I'm so pleased you and so many of the others joined in...this competition has been a real treat for me.

This has tons of edge and attitude whilst maintaining the highest standards of writing, arranging, playing and production.

A Knockout.

Very hot. A real rocker, set in a club called the Garden of Eden. Love the lyrics, especially the slithered in and last cigarette lines. Great way you turn it around and tell her to go to hell at the end. Very cool.

Absolutely brilliant. I'll have to remember "You're my last cigarette" as the ultimate complement to use in my daily life! The production is of course superb, but the real point is that this is a brilliant catchy song, I absolutely loved it. Sung and played to the highest standard. God, I sound like a bloody fanboy, I'll shut up now.

Meant to say, I like this song.

Absolutely out of the top drawer @Boydie . You smashed it. It's got an anger but also a feeling of restraint that is just waiting to explode, and then of course it does. Cracking interpretation of the drum track, Excellent playing and production. It's so refreshing to hear al these wonderful interpretaions.

What everybody said. I really like the making the devil sweat line. It's great. Inspired. I love the way the whole thing is all put together. I'm on the fence about my usual nit. One could argue it suits the feel of the song to pronounce some words like "let shoe go". I probably wouldn't do it, but then I'd probably sing the whole thing way too "clean", too, so there you are.

Otherwise, no nits.

Hi!

There is definitely some rock n roll in your song. Decadent and easy but also energetic.

Love the organ subtly adding to this...so much organ I hear tends to be too overpowering but this sits in there quietly doing its thing nicely....

All else is good too just thought I'd mention that organ!

Quite a belter of a chorus, like the rising guitar run that builds into it (and the solo)....took me a while...didn't grab me immediately first time but made more impression each further time especially as you added the backing vocals (did you get Axl Rose in for these?). Last chorus is, of course, the real killer!

Works well indeed. Good build. Interesting having that second chorus in what I call the breakdown section....makes the last one really fly though!

Production's not bad either.
Take it easy.

Yo Paul.

Great song man.  :(

I mean.  :)

 :(

Lots to love here, fine crunchy guitar tone and that HOT solo. Very tasty.  8)

I love the little ascending run on the 'Go home' section. Fits like a glove.

Great vocals too, lots of mean growl there.

Anyway,I was only joking,ya didn't have to try quite so hard,ffs.  :(

I really dig the second chorus in particular, the way the drums fall away and defy expectation (you’d think we all knew the drum track inside out by now but it’s still surprising me...). It’s striking.
Lovely swaggering marriage of the punky drums and some classic rock stylings.
Great to hear one of yours.
It's all too beautiful.

That intro is pretty long but not boring at all, maybe the slightly unexpected chords make it.
There's something in those guitars especially in the lead into the chorus that is very Foo Fighters. Actually I could hear Dave G. doing a version of this quite easily. But your little organ twist gives it something extra.
The last cigarette line is super good.
Great to have you on board for this one!

Nice to hear a slightly more sleazy take on the drum track. Got a bit of the ole pre-grunge hair metal vibe about the lyric but it really works for me, it's got enough of a wink and nudge about it to if you know what I mean.
The chorus is great, and has a little black crowes feel about it.
Personally I think you made us wait too long for the vocal at the start and I would have trimmed it a bit.
You use the drum track really well, it's a super track!
The breakdown 2nd chorus is a genius touch. Love it.

Cool rocker, goes really well with those big drums.
Production-wise I think it lacks a little bass & depth - although I don't really know in this comp how much to look at that side of stuff since we were on the clock!

The wide harmonies at 1:40 are awesome, they really elevate the chorus and the solo going into the chorus is also cool.

Hey Boydie

Good song!
The hook/title is perfectly unique!
Lyrics solid - well except for the heaven missing an angel line - been used elsewhere I think. ;D
Good melody lines and the guitar solo (thanks for that!) is stellar IMO.
Mix-wise - I thought the vocals sounded a bit thin - they cut through nicely, but could use some more bottom end.
Maybe even sing a harm an octave down in places?

Overall a great rendition of the drum track
Paul
