Hey everyone! 👋 I thought I'd jump in and share some of my current work with you all. I'm exploring a bit of a theme at the moment. Basically, this series of songs I'm working on is all about unhappy folks in unhappy situations, really digging into that feeling of discontentment.

Just a little heads-up:

I'm not a mixing engineer. 🎧
Definitely not a mastering engineer either. 🎚 but i'm trying to learn fast
But I am a musician and songwriter! 🎶✍️

Anyway, the lyrics are up next! 😊

(Verse 1)
Maybe it's the way life has used me,
Maybe it's the way life has fooled me,
But I don't take it hard, sometimes it's for the best.

Folks confused about me leaving,
But they, they don't understand my meaning.
When all I have to say,
I can't face another day.

(Chorus)
This time tomorrow, I'll be laughing with some guy
I've never known,
Drinking Mad Dog margaritas
Somewhere in a bar out in Mexico.

(Verse 2)
Grabbed some things, left some memories
Of which I'm too ashamed.
Threw the trash away and left a note to say,
"Some things just have to change."

(Chorus)
This time tomorrow, I'll be laughing with some girl
Who I've never seen,
Making eyes and telling lies,
Dancing around a juke box out in Aberlene.

(Middle)
Any place is better than just standing here
In the same old bar rooms with the same old beer,
And the same old lovers with the same old fights,
And the same old feeling of dying every night.

(Verse 3)
My horizons clear, I've got movement and I've got space.
Need to change my look, my shoes, my hair, my clothes,
Try to change my face.

Wear a smile all the while, hiding all my anger and all my pain.
This time tomorrow, I'll be hanging on a corner, out in Bangor, Maine.

(Outro)
My horizons clear, I've got movement and I've got space.
My horizons clear, I've got movement and I can reach out and touch any place.
My horizons clear, I've got movement and I've got space.

@Magpie138 -- I appreciate you providing comments on one of my songs recently, and I'm here to return the courtesy! ;D

I noticed in your post that you mentioned you're not a mixing or mastering engineer. With that in mind, I'll focus on the song itself. FWIW, I'm not very good at mixing and mastering either, and I plan to hire a real producer and engineer at some point to help me with the final steps for my demos.

Regarding your song, I think the arrangement is very good with solid lyrics, good vocals, and an excellent blend of instruments. I did find the outro a bit long and the fade out was a little too gradual in my opinion, but overall, you have a solid song that was enjoyable to listen to and definitely worth developing. Thanks for posting! I look forward to hearing more tracks from you soon.

BTW, a song at this stage would normally go in 'Works in Progress' or 'Finished Songs' subforums, rather than the 'Showcase' subforum which used to be reserved for highly-polished, radio-ready songs. Yet, those policies aren't policed at all anymore and probably don't even exist except in my archaic mind, so it's largely a free-for-all in slow motion now. Oh well! LOL!!! 😂🤣

Cheers,
Joseph

It has a nice feel to it , good vocals . It's a tad long at almost 7 minutes . Radio songs are about 2:50 to 4 minutes . Good job man over all

Thanks for the Feedback @icystorm  and absolutely, "War and peace" never went on this long. actually i realised i put the wrong edit on soundcloud.
Thanks for the heads up regarding the right forum.
But it's great to hear that you like the song, itself. the story telling aspet is an important part of my process, i'm not into gushy gooey love songs, i have an diverse and eclectic taste for song witers i listen too.
Paul Simon, Dylan, John Prine,  Tom C Hall  all the way to Eminem

Anyway thanks for taking the time to post Much appreciated
