Bridge Too Far

Words and music ©2025 Chris Price

Climbing up the gangway, we'd said goodbye for the very last time

She waved me off under a shepherd's sky, it was enough to make a grown man cry

Along the river deep n wide, our love it cannot be denied

She is my shinin' star, however good we are, it's gotta be - gotta be a bridge too far

As my ship sailed out to sea, my heart's still beatin' for her and me

What was I thinkin', why was I runnin', some things just ain't meant to be

Maybe I can turn the tide, I feel so empty deep inside

She is my shinin' star, however good we are, well it's gotta be a bridge too far

What in the world was I thinking, why did I break her heart

For a new life across the pond, for all the love in the world - it's got to be a bridge too far

I saw the Liberty Bell, when my ship came in man I felt like hell

But she took a plane, first class as well, and straight into her arms I fell

Got a hotel near Broadway, the things we did, well I just can't tell

She is my shinin' star, however good we are, it's gotta be - gotta be a bridge too far

not sure but i think there is a slight tempo glitch on my ship sails at sea

Thanks for listening. I just listened again and I think the tempo glitch you refer to is possibly down to the way I sang that particular line. I kind of hesitated after the word 'ship'. I don't think I'm going to change it, but I appreciate you pointing it out.

I appreciate your kind words. :)

Fine
This is standing on the shoulders of giants. A rocker
The degree of proficiency here is staggering, the listener is soon swept away.
If the stones released this it's be celebrated as a return to past glory. Well done Chris

Vicki

I always like your songs and your production. I don't have any constructive feedback for this one. I enjoyed listening to it!

@ChrisPrice -- It's always cool to hear a new rock track from you, Chris. This one is no different and a pleasure to listen to. It's real, authentic, and well-crafted! I enjoyed listening! ;D 8)

Chris,

Great rocking intro and chords :-)

Rhythym sections pumps the whole thing along with great energy.

Committed vocals top it off brillaintly.

And then we have an organ and guitar solos. what more coud i want?

Glad i tuned in and got lost in rock from 1976?

Cheers

Neil

Slick as they always are. You make it sound too easy  ;D

Love the title hook. Awesome!

Thekesslerboy

Liked it from the first two chords!

Perfectly constructed rocker.  Someone said Rolling Stones and I can see that, but even better it's got shades of The Smithereens.

Stadium material in the best sense.

Hola @ChrisPrice
I thought I have commented.. but now yes!!! I toyed it a lot, enjoyed your very special way of rocking, like if you had invented it!! 8)

This is really great. Something about the production and mix of the drums, bass and drums I really really like. Not sure it is super original but it is a great track and a standout among other great tracks posted on this page.

Dorian Urac

Sounds like decent 70s rock to me  :)

I hope you don't mind me giving a little bit of advice on the production. It sounds solid but the overall mix lacks some width & space. The instruments sound a bit DI. Those can benefit from a mastering treatment on the whole mix that focuses on stereo imaging and creating some air, for example with a mastering plugin like FireMaster from UnitedPlugins. But there are probably others out there that can also perform the task.

Overall, great stuff.

Cheerzzz, Dorian
Dorian Urac is inspired by 80s new wave, alternative rock, nostalgic lofi recordings and cheesy outdated music from the 50s and 60s.

@ChrisPrice ,

As always, a great performance, dense and positive guitar sound.
A great song for cozy halls! :)
