Hi all. 👋

I remember visiting a friend some years back
His flatmate had her parents visiting, north Americans,
the kind that don't usually travel.
So I thought a dinner with them might be fun.

The flatmate was a bit daft and didn't know me really.
She felt uncomfortable with my presence.
She didn't like my hair or maybe it was my shoes.
She thought I might be rude to her parents.
I told myself to be nice.

So I chatted some with the parents.
The mother was a nervous born again Christian.
Other than that, I liked them.

I'd been nice the whole time.
The mother had taken to me, and at some point started asking me
"To see the light".
I said things like, "yes, it's good people find a moral code to live by.
We're all different, what works for one might not work for another"

She rambled on nervously.
At some point she said  "Jesus loves you... even you, Paul... !"
I almost cracked up and said, "even me! Well, that Is awfully big of him!"

She went on and on, trying to get me in the fold.
Quietly, I was surprised, vaguely wondering why she bothers.

I think this episode stayed with me and contributed to my general impression of Christians.
Being brought up in the christian faith
There were other, sometimes horrific stories to draw from. I didn't really explore them in this song.

Lyrics.

Jesus loves you

Jesus loves you, God's only son
ev'rybody else thinks you're a cunt
say what y'will, do what y'must do
Jesus forgives, somebody has to

bigger than Elvis, it's true what they say
off for the weekend, back on Sunday
he died for our sins, the kids made a fuss
and so it begins, if that's not enough

Jesus loves you,
             somebody has to

heavily burdened, going down slow
the final curtain, fire and brimstone
eternally damned, better believe it
it's out of your hands, repent, release it

the rising damp, 'church needs a new roof
th' basement is rank, th' pidgeons won't roost
'not just th' money, your body and blood
children are useless, your soul if you would

Jesus loves you,
     somebody has to
days of empire, with unquenchable thirst
lived by the sword, we kill by the word
Jesus loves you,
       somebody has to

Vaya!!! Llegas dando de qué hablar!!!
I look forward to your songs, your stories. The topic is uncomfortable for many... personally and I wonder why Jesus is still on the cross if he had already been taken down centuries ago?

I really like the introductory story, it seems like a movie... that many of us have probably experienced hahaha

The atmosphere with which you surround the arrangement is great, something burlesque? My God!!! The business of his dead is endless throughout time, the eternal loop of Jesus on the cross, the only son of God, so... am I guilty despite Him?

I enjoyed it a lot!!
I did not know that to live we had to die so many times

I understood the Spanish. 😃

Yes,
A Point is, we all die but what's death if not final?

The intro is a true story
The flatmate "knew" me for years but was too dumb to know me.
It's very rare that I'm anything but polite and respectful in company.
The scene would make a nice theatre play.
If anyone was offensive it was the holy cow.

With him, I'll say you're most probably guilty
Without him you've something to aspire to , perhaps. 😆

Thanks for your feedback mora 😗

Love this @rightly !! Really liked the lyric when I read it - killer opening lines!! Really love the back story.. So this is a little more straighforward and accessible than many of your lyrics.. which is a treat as much as the obscurity of the others also are!! Sounds, arrangements and the rest are whacky as hell and I love it for that.. Theme resonates with me for many reasons.. Fab... Love your stuff!!

Hi @rightly

  A very creative piece.

I must admit, with your very poetic writing style I started reading your explanation thinking it was the lyrics And thought ‘ these are really novel’  ;D Before the penny dropped.

The whole song has a great unnerving quality - A bit of the magic roundabout on acid feel. A nice matter of fact delivery on the vocal.

Great work, cool arrangement, use of instruments and sounds.

Thanks for sharing.

All the best,

CCB

This sounds like a visit from a Jehovah Witness. They can't stop proselytizing.

Yes, the back story is fun
At times, I've thought of writing a short story of it.

I seem drawn to this whacky funfair of absurdity sound,
I think it says,
"Look how daft n unreasonable this situation is!"
But in an instrumental way.

Have you every wandered into a coin op, arcade establishment..
every one arm bandit trying to grab anyone's attention.
Such places sometimes have a silenced TV, running some football event.
These places make me laugh but I always have to leave immediately.

Thanks for your feedback!

Thanks ccb

"Until the penny dropped" 😆
Sorry to put you through that.

Yes,
Magic roundabout was what I was aiming for.
3/4 signature seems to suggest that.
Maybe if I spend more time with it I'll get other ideas.

Thanks for the feedback.

Yes, they're terrible.
Their cups filled to the brim with unsavoury nonsense.

"Proselytising"
A new word for me. I had to look it up. 😆
Thanks for the schoolin!!  😉

When I set my sights at religion in my songs I tend to be apologise a bit for it.
Maybe I shouldn't cos I love this full frontal attack you have here and all richly deserved. Wonderful lyrics and appropriately uncomfortable music to go with it.
Loved it!

Jesus may love me, but if he does, he's definitely gone down in my estimation...

Great stuff, R

I often wonder...if there is a God...why has he allowed himself to be so shockingly represented over the last 2000 years?

I think there is a God...not least because I'm sure that the Devil is loose on this planet. I can't find any other explanation for the utterly despicable behaviour of some of these monsters. And if there's black...there has to be white. Probably  :)  At least I hope so...

Anyway...I've always loved the images you conjure up and your unique style makes it impossible to gloss over or fail to engage with the subjects you tackle.

May the Lord be with you  ;)

I don't apologise for pointing out obvious flaws with concepts, narratives and such.
I'm more gentle with indivuals.
The persona I present with this song
freed me up with getting lyrics, they came about easily.
Hardly any editing.
Thankfully so, there have been songs I've really struggled with.

Thanks for the feedback 😀

Hi Paul.

On meeting a christian...
So, if a stranger introduces himself
And is quick to say he's a Christian.
I think I tend to react with seeing him as
someone who has outsourced his thinking,
spiritually, intellectually lazy, harmless, unimaginative.

Christianity is deep in our culture and effects how individuals think, to a greater or lesser extent.
There are times this way of thinking has to be uprooted.
The Christian story, the Christian approach can be useful sometimes, it can be interesting,
but nothing to live by for someone who wants a deeper and better understanding of the self and the world.

Hey. You've posted a new song.
I've been looking forward to the listen.
You better not disappoint !!!  Muhhahahaaa!

All the best to you!

Well at least JV Witness and Mormons go door to door , I'm not seeing alot of drunk Catholics doing that , Its not that I don't think about adultery , I'm /j9ust to lazy to do anything about it , We have 60,000 thoughts a day , So a few might be Jesus . Unless your prasin the Lord in a Jesus song , Your just throwing rocks at a hornets nest along with political songs.  Religion gives me headache , Jesus loves you and God bless
