An interesting mix of more standard pop song with electronic experimentation, a direction in which you have been heading for a few songs.

I still don't like the vocals. The pitchings are all over the place. And the vocal treatments only exacerbate the issue rather than soften it. But I have mentioned this before, and you are working with the vocalist you have  :)

The beats are really cool, a little bit more "open" than some of your other offerings. The bass line is lovely too, pushing along nicely.

The structure is great, swicthing between ideas swiftly enough to keep me interested, something a lot of electronica falls flat with.

Hmmm......I like this. The closest I ever get to listening to anything like this is Goldfrap which this reminded me a little of and also some St Ettienne. I thought it was original, weird, unfathomable and strangely compelling. I also thought the bass was spot on and there was plenty of variety and imagination in the arrangement.

Rather wonderful.....

little bit of Imogen Heap ---

got drawn into the andy-warhol-ness of the video ;p

i can dig it -- there is this interesting pop element to the angle of approach w/ the beats

Hey DB

This isn't really the type of music I usually listen too... at all :p
But I did like the musical aspects of the song. Nice beats, great bass line, good variation :)
I have to agree with James on the style of singing though. Doesn't sound right to me. Sounds really thin at times, and not as steady as it could (if that makes any sense?)

Hi Dutchbeat,

Another unmistakeable Dutchbeat song.

My main observation is that the vocal is lost behind the music. it should be the main instrument in your mix, with the music playing more of a supporting role.  Perhaps support the main vocal with a lower male voice if that is an option.   If you can address the vocal, then I believe it would make it easier to review the song, including possible suggestions that you might embrace. Your song sounds fairly busy at the moment. Perhaps approach a new mix, making the vocal the central instrument. Gradually introduce the other instruments and ask yourself if what you have added supports the vocal or is it perhaps taking attention away from the vocal.

As always, I love listening to your music.  You certainly bring something quite unique to this forum!

Thanks for sharing!

I'm a bass fan and this is what pulled me in.Not so sure about the vocals though a little overshadowed when they should be more prominent. The sound was really original though and with one or two re thinks you'll have a great song.
Best of luck with it

Really like this dutch...just as it is. The vocal melody is a winner...great hook..great singing. If you're looking for somewhere to go with it.....I keep hearing an African vibe going on in the background, maybe some backing singers and a counter melody....maybe not ;D ....anyway, enjoy the journey, ;D it's well worth it. It's very good, with loads of potential

I listened to this on headphones and thought the vocal sounded great

I think you have obviously taken on board previous comments about the vocal processing and it is sounding cleaner and cleaner on each track you do

I think you should throw caution to the wind and re-mix a version of this track with a much cleaner and more prominent vocal (even if you have to do it in secret  ;)) as I do think the vocal performances are getting stronger and stronger

There is a definite DB stamp all over this and I think this is the most commercial sounding track you have produced

Great stuff!

thanks everyone for the responses!

i appreciate it very much, even though several are negative about the vocals and the way i mix them
you are probably very right about that, but i am going to stick to Paul's and Boydies advice and try to make the vocals more prominent  :D.
well, i am not going to fire the singer, as she is my wife, and i hope she is not going to fire the keyboard player  ;D

but i realise that, what I think is nice, and how i mix the vocals is wrong, because i get so much consistent feedback on that, and i hope you continue to give that feedback, but i think i will be only making slow progress on that...if any...so i hope you hang in there...and keep taking the time to listen and comment

very much appreciated

and perhaps one day we may get it right, but that would be more on chance than based on any knowledge
but i will remix, also making more open space, but i am also intrigued by the remark of Binladeda, hearing some African vibe... mhhh...can i make that more prominent.. ::)

anyway i will update what comes out of it, and then with a more 'serious' video

Hey :)

I'm liking the way you are experimenting, electronically. You're doing a lot more
with what you create than a while ago and I like it.
The bass helped push everything along and the drums were cool too.
The vocals for me sound as if they are in tune but are being "effected so much as to make them really unlistenable and very jarring to the ear.
I'll bet Mrs Dutchbeat sound just as great if not better without so many of the effects.
If I was Mrs ducthbeat I'd give you a clip around you ear for thinking you have to effect my voice so much to make it sound good!  :P
Well done again mate   :) apart from your abuse of Mrs Dutchbeat  ;)

thanks, Schavuitje
(jij kleine rotzak..weer eens lekker eerlijk, en je hebt nog gelijk ook, denk ik...)

so i will take that as a man

that was what i was saying in Dutch

and i will make that honest and dry mix
of mrs. DB´s vocals for once

everybody out here has been advising that to me for years
