I wrote this song about 2-3 years ago before I got into songwriting properly. I just come across it in an old notebook of mine I found and its not the best, but I thought id post in anyway. I wrote it about that period in time when you realise you're moving on from under your parents wings and entering into the adult world.

Playing It Safe

The sun is setting
Way off in the distance
And I would chase it but
I've gotta take a chance

Every blade of grass
The beginning of a new path
With miles and miles to go
That is all I know

Cus' I'm a young kid
I've been playing it safe!
Learning, learning my ways
Is there really anything out there for me...

And when you're a young kid
Playing it safe
You live by, what others say
But I will have my day

When the dawn comes who will I be...

Mamma told me don't lie
Poppa said reach for the sky
Well they have meant me well
But now I must write my own story to tell

So now I stray from the beaten track
And there ain't no looking back
May this road I pave in gold
May I be so bold

Cus' I'm a young kid
I've been playing it safe
Learning, learning my ways
Is there really anything out there for me

And when you're a young kid
Playing it safe
You live by, what others say
But I will have my day

Instrumental break

I'm just a young kid
I've been playing it safe
Learning, learning my ways
Is there really anything out there for me

When you're a young kid
Playing it safe
You live by, what others say
But I will have my day

When the dawn comes who will I be! Who will I be! Who, will I be...

Rare subject matter so kudos for capturing that. Great job in rhyming to fit your story. But while all this is great, there are a lot of easy and obvious rhymes here. If this is one of your earliest songs, then super kudos. This is pretty great. My earliest ones were horrid. I rhymed 'sounds' with 'sounds', 'radio' with 'radio'. And 'love' with 'all'.
When hope fails a servant or prey,
Anger frees him from all the chains,
If hope disappoints, anger prevails,
And freedom is worth all the pain.
