Hello all,

I worked on this a few weeks back and don't think I'll get time to add any more, so this is it, watch to the end ;)

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=XRZyoUpuQXk

Cold Pebbles and Bones

Where did Lorelei go?
Was she meeting
Her love in the snow?
In Bluebell wood?
Where did she go?
Nobody knows...

I study witnesses words
The rumours and
Things that I've heard
To Bluebell wood
Why did she go?
Nobody knows...

La la Lorelei aye
La la Lorelei aye
Oh aye aye
Oh aye aye
Oh Lorelei

A piece of paper recounts
The wild girl was
Stepping out
With a man who had tied
And murdered his bride
For Lorelei

Deep in Bluebell wood
I'd find her if I could
Under the trees
I'm oddly at ease
Lorelei...

La la Lorelei aye
La la Lorelei aye
Oh aye aye
Oh aye aye
Oh Lorelei

The cold wind cutting
my spine
I'm chilled I'm
Fearing inside
A pile of stones!
Cold pebbles and bones!
Lorelei.....aye?

Voices!
or is it the breeze?
A figure!
or is it the trees?
The murdered bride's
Ghost never died
She took Lorelei....aye
Away to die

I loved the song - the singing and harmonies are beautiful and the guitar playing is a perfect match. Simple, well told story with spare lyrics and no faffing about - straight to the point - great storytelling. The melody sounded like it had always been there like a traditional English folk song and I can hear that being recorded by a contemporary English folk singer like Laura Marling or Lucy Ward.

Beautiful song.

Sounds really good, nice simple story, I especially like the line 'The cold wind cutting my spine'.

Hi habitat,

wonderful, works so well on so many levels, loved the garden gnome in Bluebell Wood ; )

The bar has certainly been set very high.

At first I thought the melodies landed in too obvious places, especially at the end of each verse but the melody keeps digging, and cuddles itself in :-)
Love the way the end parts with the melody and harmonies loses track and movement but still keeps together in a lo-fi kinda way.
Still, I waited for some unexpected chord or melodic twist somewhere in there (sorry that I cannot be more specific). But that´s just me. I reaaly, really like that kind of thing. But I liked the song and I liked the delivery :-)

What a beautifully haunting song Hab :) you've told the story so perfectly...a little eerie, but at the same time very beautiful because the melody, guitar and your vocals are so lovely  8)

The video is really well done as well...made me a little dizzy in parts :) Awesome entry :)

Boy, so far the bar is really being set high for this scary song comp.  :o :o

Loved the melody and the simplicity of this. Lyrics are great and the harmonies are sweet. And the video added a whole new dimension (wish I could do that!) Man there's some wicked talent on this forum!

Tough to beat this - good luck!

The melody sounded like it had always been there like a traditional English folk song

+1 to that, I had the same feeling, esp in the chorus.

Nice Simon and Garfunkel feel too.

I really enjoyed this. Great story told with great lyrics, beautiful melody with lovely harmonies (BVs could be tidied a little in one or two places), nice arrangement with the simple guitar and then slowing down for the end.

And would have done a stirling job as a Nick Cave murder ballad too.

Hi,  a good song and though it's a bit too folky for me but I enjoyed it. The vocal harmony works well, nice one!
Cheers

Pure class

Sounds great to me

A few of the really high vocals have a few "wobbles" but this all adds to the charm of the track

The reverb is really well judged and I liked the panning in places where it sounds like you are walking around the room
