Here's my entry for last place, Digger has no chance.

Put on my face, gonna drink your wine
Put on my face, gonna drink your wine
I take our my soul
Just to see it shine

I walk your streets, turn the night sky red
I walk your streets, turn the night sky red
I make spectres dance
On the day of the dead

With my walking cane n' velvet cape
With my walking cane n' velvet cape
I've dressed for you
So don't be late

Don't try to hide, I find what I seek
Don't try to hide, I find what I seek
I caress your neck
You taste so sweet

I take off my face, I've drank your wine
I take off my face, I've drank your wine
I take out your soul
Just to see it shine

Last place? Between you a Digger, I don't think either of you have a chance at last place, because my entry is going to be by far the worst ::) just wait...you'll see ::)

All joking aside, I think you've done a really good job with this Keith  :) it suits the title perfectly
really nice job on the lyrics and song...you've vocals are perfect as well 8)
and then you take it one step further with a stellar video...that mask is too much 8)

you got no chance on getting that last place spot :o :o :o

Now THAT was creepy!
Nothing creepier than a man in a mask IMO.
Liked those out-of-tune guitar licks and the plodding mood you got going in this.
And the lyrics suited well too.
Gonna do well in the comp!

This does have a menacing air about it and I like the lead guitar playing. Hard to see this beating Paulski's effort though - it lacks a little bit of imagination and variation in approach for me but these competitions do require a different mind set and this certainly has that.

Thanks for all the comments. I'm surprised you found it creepy as the woman in the mask, well she was sometimes, fell about laughing when she watched it.

One day I may surprise Montydog and do something with a bit more variety.

I've never heard the blues played like this. Pretty eccentric/quirky. I like the sound texture chosen for the electric. Nice odd licks. But it's too overpowering at times. I would prefer it played softer. Because I like the cool quiet sounds of the background guitar tracks and your voice.
When hope fails a servant or prey,
Anger frees him from all the chains,
If hope disappoints, anger prevails,
And freedom is worth all the pain.

I really like the guitar and vocals in this, the overall sound really suited the lyrics.

Good video too apart from around the 2.30 point where we get a crystal clear shot of 'Save 5p a Litre'! Kind of ruined the effect for me  :o

There's something deeply chilling about that lead guitar.... and the plodding ramshackle rhythm track. It's like the band is made up of zombies - all playing just a little behind the beat.

Not a straight comparison, but something in this reminded me of Tom Waits 'murder in the red barn' - another excellent halloween tune :) (link for those interested
)

Thanks for sharing Keith :)

Great lyrics for this one Keith.
Despite the distorted guitar (I like that traditional blues intro...bit T-Bone Walker), the demented one-finger typist and the dead (sorry!)pan delivery i found an undercurrent of humour and almost jollity beneath that chilling exterior. Might have been the mask or the sort of bouncy (and deadpan!) vocal delivery. Yeah I think it's the bouncy vocal....it's got a bit of a swing to it.

Hope this isn't an offensive interpretation...it isn't meant to be!

Anyway, it's a most apt entry to the comp, has a style of its own and might be a dark horse contender - not for last place!
Take it easy.

Hi Diademgrove

Quirky and hypnotic, early Floyd and VU come to mind and like the strange video. Well performed and sounds good.

All the best in the competition Syd  :)

Thanks for all the comments, no offensive interpretations take. The petrol station was a throw back to too many French films which always seemed to have something odd chucked in.

The demented typist came from Katy Perry's I kissed a girl, distorted by the zombies in the band, brilliant image. Which I'd thought of that, it would have been in the film.

Thanks again,

Keith

like the shaky bits of the video and the sound has something of the october night and nick cave about it .like the rythm and the way it moves along great eerie guitar sound making ripples in my teacup.. im truly aghast at the horrors that lurk in bedrooms in hull..
you want to keep an eye on mary..
good luck in the comp
